About Us
The Shire Hall Gallery is an exciting and innovative contemporary visual art gallery. It hosts a diverse programme of lively, family friendly temporary art and craft exhibitions throughout the year.
Visitors can also explore the historic Victorian Crown Court which still stands within this listed building, learn about the fate of the people who stood in the dock and see the holding cells where prisoners once awaited trial.
Admission to the Shire Hall Gallery is FREE!
The gallery has a registered craft shop stocking quality one-off work by British designer-makers as well as a coffee shop serving a range of drinks and snacks.
We have a regular programme of activities and events ranging from art for the under fives through to master classes with professional artists. Click here to view some of our activities and events.
There’s also a multi-sensory room, which is available to all visitors free of charge and can be used to stimulate the senses of babies, toddlers and special needs visitors.
