14th March 2012
Ravel’s light-hearted Tombeau de Couperin, written in memory of friends who died fighting in the First World War, is a world away from Strauss’ beautifully intense and mournful Metamorphosen, an emotional homage to the destruction of Germany in World War Two. Separating these two works is Mozart’s Piano Concerto no.21, one of his most popular and lyrical works.
