27th April 2012
A programme of works by composers inspired by love. The muse for Webern’s Langsamer Satz (written in a richly Romantic style) was his future wife, Wilhelmine Mörtl. Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes explore love in all its shapes and forms, while Dvorák’s Love Songs (arranged by David Matthews) are all settings of romantic poems. Souvenir de Florence by Tchaikovsky, king of melodies, was dedicated to his mystery patron, Nadezhda von Meck, whom he never actually met.
