A drum, a drum Macbeth doth come!

21st, June, 2018

With just a week to go until the opening of this year’s Stafford Festival Shakespeare, the event’s Producers are gearing up for a busy week ahead as the cast and crew of Macbeth prepare to take up residence at Stafford Castle.

Following a demanding few weeks of rehearsals at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, all parties involved in this year’s production of Macbeth are gearing up for packed performance schedule beginning on Thursday 28th June.

The show boasts a wonderful cast, including Bil Stuart as the tyrannical usurper Macbeth, Rosie Hilal as his “fiend-like” queen, led by returning Director Clare Prenton.

This year, the Festival welcomes two new additions to the Creative Team in debutants, Music Director David Hewson and Production Designer Simon Kenny. Joining them will be Voice Coach Mel Churcher – who local audiences will remember from her contribution to the 2016 production of Othello – Lighting Designer Peter Harrison, Fight Director Alison De Burgh (who has worked on several Shakespeare and Gatehouse Theatre pantos in recent years) and Movement Director Kane Husbands.

Stafford Festival Shakespeare spokesman, Thomas Waldron, says:

“Everything is in place to ensure this is one of the best productions at the Castle in recent memory.

“Our wonderful – authentically Scottish (in the main) – cast have been an absolute joy to work with and myself and the Creative Team are incredibly excited to see all the hard work pay off when our first audiences sit down to watch the play on opening night next Thursday.

"What’s more exciting is that over 7,600 people have already booked their tickets for the show, which is just a few hundred short of the total number of people who came to see The Tempest last year. Anyone who hasn’t booked their ticket yet is urged to do so quick as some performances are nearing capacity.”

Macbeth will open on Thursday 29th June and run until Saturday 14th July 2017 at Stafford Castle. Full ticket information and this year’s catering options can be obtained from the box office on 01785 619080 or by visiting www.staffordfestivalshakespeare.com
