The magic of Christmas is coming to Stafford and the countdown in the county town starts with the Big Christmas Switch on Show on Saturday 16 November. Festive fun for all the family is guaranteed and it kick starts a bigger and better programme of family entertainment on the run up to the big day, including:

It all begins with that Big Christmas Switch on Show on Saturday 16 November.
With guaranteed festive fun for all the family, thousands of people are expected to gather around the magnificent Christmas tree in the centre of Stafford at 5pm to see the much loved Christmas lights officially switched on. This year the honours of pushing the button at Stafford’s Big Christmas Switch On Show will go to representatives from Stafford borough’s array of volunteers; celebrating the work that volunteers do all year-round, making a difference to the lives of thousands of Stafford borough residents.
The Town Centre will come alive with fairground rides, festive side stalls, Christmas at the Ancient High House with Children’s Christmas wish tree, face painting pop up tea room, pomander making (£2 charge)and meet Father Christmas (£2 charge) and an artisan Makers Market in Princes Street.
To get the party started, the magical atmosphere will start to spread throughout the town centre from 3pm with an old-school Christmas Disco followed by an action packed show live on the glittering outdoor stage. The nine piece line up, a collaboration of performers and musicians, known as ‘Dance Party Project’ will perform their fresh and upbeat show featuring party songs from the 90’s as well as dance club classics such as Ain’t Nobody by Chaka Khan and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars; creating a Christmas party to remember!
So get ready to Rock around the Christmas tree!!
The spectacular Christmas lights will illuminate Stafford Town Centre, followed by a sensational firework display shortly after 5pm -providing just the right amount of Christmas sparkle in the sky above the square. Whether it’s an annual event for you and the family, or it’s your first time – join us, wrap up warm and experience Stafford’s Big Christmas Switch on Show!
This is just a taste of what to expect in Stafford over the festive period, there is a packed programme of events running up to the big day and beyond, popular favourites such as the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church between the 4th and 8th December, a wonderful look at Christmas through the ages at the historic Ancient High House with Stafford Past on Saturday 7th December and a return for the popular “letters to Santa workshop” – this year with the addition of tweeting the main man! - taking place in Market Square on Saturday 7th December, where children can message Santa and meet the snowman.
On the 21st December we are adding a new event with the arrival of the Elf Station in the town centre. Children can meet our 2 elves will be accompanied by Christmas music, dress up “elfie” photographs, give away candy canes along with a Christmas silly dance off competition with prizes.
And don’t forget our brilliant panto, Peter Pan at the Gatehouse Theatre which promises to delight audiences of all ages over the festive season. Join EastEnders and Coronation Street Star Ian Reddington at Stafford Gatehouse this Christmas as he leads the cast of this year’s swashbuckling family treat, playing the most boo-able baddy of them all, Captain Hook.
Our theatre has a long legacy of pantomime and this year, audiences can expect a high-energy show with stunning costumes, chart topping hits galore, and a sprinkle of magic from the mischievous Tinkerbell, making for an unforgettable festive treat.
Peter Pan opens at Stafford Gatehouse on Friday 13th December and will run until Sunday 5th January.

For Christmas 2019 we have festive markets and craft fairs galore – in addition to our popular Indoor Market we have a Christmas craft fair at St Chad’s Church (30th November), a Christmas market on 23rd November, the Christmas farmers market on the 14th December, two Makers Markets on 16th November and 21st December, the popular Stafford Walking Street (street food and entertainment) on 12th December and the two day Christmas Food and Drink returns to the Market Square on 30th November and 1st December.
